Estonian Biathlon Youths Won Medals at the World Championships
Estonian youth biathletes secured a bronze medal in the 3 x 7.5 km relay race at the World Championships in Germany.
Estonian youth biathletes achieved notable success at the World Championships in Arber, Germany, winning a bronze medal in the 3 x 7.5 km relay event. Daniel Varikov started the relay, finishing the first leg in tenth place, nearly a minute behind the lead. Subsequent team members, Kristen Baumann and Frederik Välbel, managed to improve Estonia’s position, with Välbel’s performance elevating the team into the podium finishers.
The competition witnessed a strong performance from the Italian team, who claimed victory, finishing with a time of 1:02:00.2. Despite some setbacks, including Austria's duo needing two penalty laps, they finished just 6.7 seconds ahead of Estonia. Estonia's solid result saw them finish 29.7 seconds behind the winners and 19.5 seconds ahead of fourth-placed France, showcasing their competitive edge.
The World Championships for Youth and Junior Biathlon will continue until Sunday, March 8, which presents further opportunities for Estonian athletes to shine on the international stage. Achieving a medal at such a prestigious event not only highlights individual talent but also signifies the growing prominence of Estonia in the biathlon arena.
