airBaltic performs fourth repatriation flight from Dubai on Sunday evening
Latvia's national airline airBaltic completed its fourth repatriation flight from Dubai on Sunday evening, bringing back 145 passengers to Latvia.
On Sunday evening, Latvia's national airline, airBaltic, conducted its fourth repatriation flight from Dubai, following a series of organized repatriations in response to the significant demand for Latvian citizens returning from the United Arab Emirates. This particular flight carried 145 passengers, adding to the previous flights that had already repatriated over 400 individuals, including Latvian citizens and their family members as well as citizens from other EU countries. The urgency for these flights arose from the ongoing situation that made travel challenging for many individuals residing in the UAE.
Prior to this flight, airBaltic had successfully executed three repatriation flights that took place on March 6, returning 280 Latvian citizens and several family members back to Riga. Demand for additional flights led to the third flight being arranged shortly after, which further facilitated the return of 144 Latvian nationals and family members. The Latvian government recognized the importance of these repatriation efforts and, during an emergency meeting, allocated 752,000 euros to support the operations necessary for these flights, illustrating the government’s commitment to aiding its citizens abroad during these challenging times.
This organized effort showcases the collaboration between airBaltic and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in ensuring the safe return of Latvian nationals. The continued implementation of repatriation flights emphasizes the government’s proactive approach and responsibility towards its citizens who find themselves in difficult situations abroad. As the situation evolves, airBaltic might be called upon to conduct more flights, depending on the demand and developments regarding travel restrictions in the UAE.
