The fifth repatriation flight from Dubai will not be organized – everyone who wanted to has returned
The Latvian Foreign Ministry announced that all citizens wishing to return from Dubai have already done so, concluding the repatriation process.
The Latvian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the fifth repatriation flight from Dubai will not take place as all interested citizens wishing to return to Latvia have already done so. Following the crisis brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, this series of repatriation flights marked the largest effort by Latvia to bring back its citizens, with considerable participation noted in 2020. Data from the Consular Register indicated that there are 825 registered Latvian citizens in the UAE, most of whom have either returned through these planned repatriation flights or through private arrangements.
Approximately 600 of these citizens successfully returned home, leaving an estimated 200 who still remain in the UAE. Officials from the Foreign Ministry have reached out to all citizens who have not yet returned and reported that none have expressed a desire to come back to Latvia at this time. The Ministry has emphasized that the active repatriation process has concluded and that there are currently no plans for additional flights. Instead, remaining citizens are advised on individual options for departure based on their circumstances.
The Ministry also pointed out that public flight options are becoming available again, thus facilitating citizens in making their own travel arrangements. They assured that no Latvian citizen would be left without support, stating that if there is a need for further assistance, individual discussions would be held to assess their readiness to return. This approach highlights the ministry's commitment to ensuring the well-being of its citizens abroad, reflecting a broader trend in post-pandemic recovery efforts.
