NELFUND disburses N206bn to over one million students
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has distributed over N206 billion in loans to support more than one million students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) announced that it has disbursed over N206 billion in loans since the program's inception, benefiting 1,164,222 students who applied for financial assistance. The report highlights the significant impact of the program, which has reached approximately 270 tertiary institutions nationwide. As of the latest figures, 1,734,985 students have submitted applications, evidencing a strong demand for educational loans in the country.
The breakdown of the disbursement reveals that N128.84 billion was allocated directly to higher institutions to cover tuition fees, while an additional N77.45 billion was provided to students as upkeep allowances to help with their living expenses during their studies. The NELFUND initiative was launched to alleviate the financial burdens faced by students in Nigeria, and it has garnered considerable engagement from students seeking support.
