NELFUND commends DELSU for allowing loan beneficiaries to sit for exams

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has praised Delta State University for allowing verified loan beneficiaries to participate in exams.

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has expressed its appreciation to Delta State University (DELSU) for a supportive decision that enables beneficiaries of the Federal Government's student loan scheme to take their exams. This commendation comes in light of a directive issued by DELSU's management on March 6, 2026, which permits students with verified loan statuses to sit for the first semester examinations of the 2025/2026 academic year.

The university's directive, communicated through an internal memorandum by Professor Hilary Ijeoma, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), allows students who show a status of 'verified' or 'disbursed' on the NELFUND platform to take their exams. This approach ensures that students affected by the loan scheme can continue their education without hindrance, enabling a smoother academic progression.

The Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, hailed DELSU’s decision as a commendable example of cooperation among tertiary institutions and financial aid programs, emphasizing the importance of such measures for fostering an education-supportive environment in Nigeria. By facilitating examination access, DELSU is not only empowering students financially but also reinforcing the significance of educational funding in enhancing academic success and retention.
