The Most Unusual Fire at the Beginning of Spring - Rescuers Had to Extinguish a Yurt

Lithuanian firefighters responded to multiple fires, leading to several rescues and fatalities over the past three days, including the extinguishing of a fire in an apartment building and a residential home.

Over the past three days, Lithuanian firefighters have been busy, responding to 104 fire incidents and conducting an additional 99 rescue operations. Tragically, two lives were saved, while one person lost their life and two others sustained injuries during these incidents. This surge in fire activity highlights a concerning trend as warmer weather brings about increased risks of fire hazards in residential areas.

One significant incident occurred on Saturday evening in Vilnius, where flames engulfed a balcony on the ninth floor of an apartment building. Firefighters heroically rescued a man and woman from the apartment, both of whom were transported to the hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation. The fire caused substantial damage, destroying a room, the balcony, and damaging the nearby apartment's plastic frame and finishes. Authorities noted that the absence of a smoke detector in the affected apartment may have contributed to the severity of the incident.

On Sunday, another deadly fire broke out in a residential building in Kiaužeriai village within Panevėžys district. Firefighters found a person unconscious inside a wooden home that was heavily filled with smoke upon their arrival. Despite their efforts, the individual was declared dead by medical personnel. The kitchen of the residence was completely burnt, further emphasizing the dire consequences of such fires during the spring season when households are more likely to be unprepared for fire emergencies. These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety practices and the need for working smoke detectors in homes.
