Fire in Utena dormitory forces 30 residents to jump out of bed and flee outside

A fire at a dormitory in Utena, Lithuania has forced approximately 30 residents to evacuate in the middle of the night.

In the early hours of March 5, a fire erupted at a dormitory located on Vaizganto Street in Utena, prompting immediate response from local firefighters. Upon arrival, firefighters found the building heavily filled with smoke, and smoke detectors were actively alerting residents in the second-floor corridors. The incident led to significant damage in the kitchen area, where kitchen appliances were destroyed, and furniture was burned. Furthermore, the windows suffered damage with shattered glass, alongside melted electrical installations and lighting fixtures in the corridor, which left the second floor adversely affected by smoke and heat.

Around 30 residents were either evacuated independently or assisted outside by the firefighters prior to their arrival. Emergency medical personnel assessed one resident at the scene, providing necessary medical assistance. The emergency services utilized three fire engines and aerial ladders to combat the fire, which was effectively brought under control.
