Police Investigate Three Cases of Ticket Fraud for BTS Comeback Concert, Over 9,000 Personnel Deployed on Event Day
South Korean police are investigating three cases of ticket fraud related to a BTS comeback concert, set to take place in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, with over 9,000 law enforcement and event staff deployed for security.
South Korean police have launched an investigation into ticket fraud allegations concerning the upcoming BTS comeback concert scheduled for the 21st in Gwanghwamun, Seoul. The investigation stems from reports of unauthorized use of macro programs to purchase tickets and complaints of fraudulent ticket sales. According to Park Jung-bo, the commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, they are focusing on three specific cases where ticket buying offenses have been reported, including suspicious mass purchases facilitated by automated programs. The ticket sales agency, NOL, has collaborated with the police in identifying illegal activities.
Authorities are actively monitoring ticket sales leading up to the concert and have noted various forms of ticket scams, such as the resale of free tickets and offers to buy tickets using macro programs. Park warns that selling tickets for money can be considered fraud, and individuals utilizing such programs could become accomplices in scams, possibly leading to personal data theft as well. Police have already identified over 110 suspicious posts related to ticket sales and have requested their deletion or blocking to prevent potential scams.
To ensure public safety during the concert, which is expected to gather up to 260,000 attendees, authorities will deploy approximately 4,800 police personnel, along with a special police unit and additional local resources. The concert organizer, HYBE, will also provide 4,300 safety management staff at the venue. Park emphasized that the safety of citizens during the event is of paramount concern and that the level of police presence is justified given the potential risks associated with such a large gathering, highlighting the importance of public safety over other considerations in this context.
