Ministry of Culture and Sports: 105 suspicious BTS tickets identified and referred to police for investigation
The Ministry of Culture and Sports in South Korea has identified 105 cases of suspected illegal resale of BTS concert tickets and referred them to the police for investigation.
The Ministry of Culture and Sports (MCST) in South Korea has taken action against the illegal resale of BTS concert tickets by identifying 105 instances suspected of being scalped and referring them to the police for investigation. The ministry reported that, during monitoring from January 23 onward, they found a total of 1868 posts related to ticket sales that violated sales policies on online secondary trading platforms, with the majority linked to the concerts held in Gwanghwamun and Goyang.
The monitoring revealed a substantial number of posts involved; specifically, 1853 relating to the Goyang concert and 15 for the Gwanghwamun concert. Some sellers posted multiple advertisements, inflating the number of flagged tickets. The ministry emphasized the use of strict verification methods including QR codes, identification checks, and wristband procedures to ensure that even if fake tickets are bought, actual entry to the concert will be difficult.
Minister 최휘영 (Choi Hwi-young) expressed the government's commitment to maintaining market order and protecting fans from exploitation, stating that scalping is a social issue that undermines the concert viewing experience. Recently, they have further strengthened legislation against ticket scalping, allowing for penalties up to 50 times the sale amount for any fraudulent ticket trading, reinforcing the government's stance on creating a fair viewing culture for concerts.
