Director Jang Hang-jun will attend the Danjong Cultural Festival in Yeongwol, which has seen increased interest following the success of his film ‘The King’s Affection.’

The film 'The King’s Affection' has surpassed 11 million viewers, significantly raising interest in the upcoming Danjong Cultural Festival set to take place in Yeongwol, Gangwon Province. Director Jang Hang-jun announced his attendance at the event, which celebrates the historical significance and local identity related to King Danjong, who was deposed in the 15th century. The festival will occur from July 24 to 26, incorporating significant sites tied to Danjong's legacy, including his tomb, Jangneung, and the site where he was exiled, Cheongnyeongpo.

On the first day of the festival, Jang is scheduled to give a special lecture at the Yeongwol Cultural Arts Center and will participate in the opening ceremony. Although the actor who played King Danjong, Park Ji-hoon, will not attend, he has contributed to the event through a promotional video, highlighting the beautiful scenery and the warmth of the locals which enhanced his filming experience. He encourages visitors to experience the festival, which promises various programs that allow people to engage more closely with Danjong's story, thus enhancing the cultural significance of the event.

The success of the film is expected to boost tourism for the Danjong Cultural Festival, which has already seen cumulative tourist numbers to Cheongnyeongpo and Jangneung hit approximately 110,000 by early July—effectively surpassing last year's figures, which didn't reach that number until June. Director Jang has been actively promoting Yeongwol and its cultural sites, emphasizing the importance of visiting key locations related to Danjong's story, exemplifying the potential for film to significantly impact local tourism and cultural engagement.
