‘The King’s Man’ craze draws crowds to Cheongnyeongpo…special safety inspections conducted

The film 'The King's Man', nearing ten million viewers, has led to safety inspections at Cheongnyeongpo, a key filming location.

As the film 'The King's Man' approaches the milestone of ten million viewers, the Gangwon Province government in Korea has announced special safety inspections at Cheongnyeongpo, a tourist site that has gained significant attention due to the film's success. On June 6, authorities revealed that they will conduct a joint safety inspection to ensure the area can accommodate the influx of tourists drawn by the film's popularity. During the Seollal holiday period earlier this year, Cheongnyeongpo witnessed an unprecedented rise in visitors, with over 11,000 tourists—five times the usual number—visiting during that time.

With such high attendance, the local government is taking measures to ensure safety, including early closing of ferry ticket sales due to the overwhelming crowd. The upcoming safety inspections will focus on the adequacy of lifesaving equipment and compliance with maritime regulations to ensure that ferries are operating within their passenger limits. Gangwon Province officials emphasized their commitment to proactively managing any disaster risks so that visitors can safely enjoy their experiences at Cheongnyeongpo.

Additionally, the inspection will extend to the sanitation of restaurants in the area, with the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety planning to conduct cleanliness checks on about 100 food establishments around Cheongnyeongpo. Key areas of inspection will include food handling practices, expiration dates on stored food products, and health checks for restaurant staff. As visitor numbers continue to rise, there will also be a strong focus on preventing foodborne illnesses and ensuring compliance with price display regulations, highlighting the importance of both safety and health amid the ongoing tourism boom driven by the film's popularity.
