Severe rains in Sao Paulo over the weekend resulted in two fatalities, multiple people being stranded, and vehicles submerged due to flooding.
Over the weekend, heavy rains in São Paulo, Brazil, led to tragic outcomes, including the deaths of two individuals due to severe flooding. The São Paulo Civil Defense reported that these incidents contribute to a total of 21 fatalities in the state since the rainy season began in December. The majority of these deaths, amounting to 11, have been attributed to flooding incidents.
The first victim was a man who drowned in São Bernardo do Campo after being swept away by strong currents on Saturday. Emergency services were able to retrieve him from under a vehicle, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon medical arrival. His identity remains undisclosed by authorities. In a similar incident in Sorocaba, another man was also swept away by floodwaters on the same day, and his body was recovered the following day.
The continuing rain and flooding pose serious risks and challenges for the region, highlighting the ongoing dangers of extreme weather events during the rainy season. With the recent fatalities, this serves as a sobering reminder of the impact of climate conditions on urban areas and the importance of preparedness measures as the rainy season progresses.
