Retired Ukrainian soldier Ivan Lipinski shared his gratitude for the life-saving support he received from Latvian micro-surgeons after sustaining severe injuries during the conflict. He volunteered to fight at the onset of the full-scale war, where he suffered injuries to both his leg and arm, the latter of which was severely damaged, leaving almost only the bone intact. Lipinski was eventually evacuated to Latvia for treatment, where he underwent an astonishing total of 23 surgeries to treat the extent of his injuries.

In a heartfelt interview with Latvian Television, Lipinski highlighted the exceptional skills and dedication of Latvian micro-surgeons Olafs Libermanis and Mārtiņš Malzubris, who provided critical medical care during his recovery. He expressed immense gratitude towards them and the Latvian medical team, stating that he struggled to find words to convey the impact they had on his life. The Ukrainian doctors involved acknowledged that the work carried out by their Latvian counterparts was incredible, underscoring the importance of collaboration and support in the medical field amidst the ongoing conflict.
