FG resumes repair on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Tuesday

The Federal Ministry of Works in Nigeria is set to resume repairs on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, affecting traffic due to construction works at the Kara Bridge.

The Federal Ministry of Works in Nigeria has announced the continuation of essential maintenance work on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, specifically targeting the replacement of the expansion joints at the Kara Bridge in Ogun State. This work is scheduled to start on a Tuesday and is expected to last for two weeks, concluding on March 24, 2026. The repairs have been deemed necessary to ensure the safety and longevity of this major roadway.

Officials, including the Federal Controller of Works, Olayiwola Komolafe, indicated that the maintenance will result in a partial road closure at the Kara Bridge section, which will narrow the road width and consequently impact traffic flow for motorists heading out of Lagos. To mitigate the anticipated congestion, alternative routes have been suggested for travelers, including those coming from Ikorodu towards Mowe, Sagamu, and Ibadan.

The ministry encourages affected motorists to use specified detours, such as the Shimawa and Mosinmi routes, or for those on Lagos Island to divert through the Epe corridor via Ijebu Ode. These recommendations aim to ease traffic pressures during the two-week repair period, highlighting the government's efforts to maintain infrastructure while addressing potential disruptions to road users.
