FG diverts traffic on Lagos-Ibadan expressway for Kara bridge repairs

The Federal Ministry of Works in Nigeria plans to repair the Kara Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, diverting traffic for approximately two weeks starting March 10, 2026.

The Federal Ministry of Works in Nigeria has announced a significant traffic diversion on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to accommodate crucial repairs on the Kara Bridge. This construction work, aimed at replacing damaged expansion joints, is scheduled to commence on March 10, 2026, and will last for about two weeks until March 24, 2026. Motorists have been advised to plan their routes accordingly to avoid delays during this period.

In a statement issued by Olayiwola Komolafe, the Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes to mitigate traffic congestion caused by the repairs. For instance, drivers traveling from Ikorodu to Mowe, Sagamu, or Ibadan should consider using Shimawa or Mosinmi routes. Meanwhile, those departing from Lagos Island are instructed to take the Epe corridor via Ijebu Ode to access Sagamu, Ibadan, or Mowe.

The Ministry has also cautioned that taking shorter routes may not always lead to faster travel times. Motorists are urged to plan their journeys early, adhere to traffic management directives, and drive cautiously in the construction zones. This advisory reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining infrastructure while attempting to minimize disruptions for commuters.
