Inspection in Óbidos seizes 8.5kg of drugs on a vessel

Authorities in Óbidos, Brazil, seized approximately 8.5 kilograms of marijuana from a boat traveling from Manaus to Santarém during a routine inspection.

On Saturday afternoon, integrated teams operating at the Integrated Fluvial Base Candiru, linked to the Public Security and Social Defense Secretariat of Pará, successfully seized around 8.5 kilograms of marijuana during an inspection in the waterways of Óbidos, located in the Lower Amazon region of Brazil. The illicit drugs were found on a vessel traveling from Manaus (AM) to Santarém in western Pará. This seizure highlights ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the area.

Ed-Lin Anselmo, the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense in Pará, emphasized the importance of fluvial bases in tackling drug trafficking and other crimes prevalent in the region. According to Anselmo, the continuous inspections conducted by these bases are crucial for intercepting organized crime operations. He noted that the primary objective is to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking and any criminal activities that attempt to exploit the extensive river networks of the region.

The enforcement of security measures along Brazil's waterways is increasingly critical due to the rise in drug-related activities and organized crime. The operations carried out by local authorities reflect a commitment to public safety and the need to secure key transit routes against illegal shipments. As law enforcement continues to remain vigilant, the community can expect ongoing efforts to reduce crime and drug trafficking in the region.
