More than half a ton of fish is seized during inspection at Base Candiru in Óbidos

A total of 559 kilograms of fish were seized due to irregular transport during an inspection at Base Candiru in Óbidos, Brazil.

During a recent inspection at the Integrated River Base Candiru located in Óbidos, Brazil, authorities seized 559 kg of fish being transported illegally. The inspection targeted the vessel F/B Golfinho do Norte, which was traveling between Manaus (AM) and Monte Alegre (PA). Upon inspection, it was discovered that the necessary documentation, such as the Stock Declaration and Transit Guide, was missing, preventing the team from verifying the origin of the fish being transported.

Among the seized fish were 323 kg of pirarucu, 117 kg of curimatã, 119 kg of surubim, and three golden catfish. Notably, some of the fish included in the haul belong to a species that is currently in its closed season in the region, which constitutes an environmental crime under existing legislation. The strict enforcement of these laws highlights the importance of protecting local fish populations and maintaining sustainable fishing practices.

The operation was coordinated by the Secretary of Public Security of Pará (Segup) and involved a comprehensive effort from various agencies including the Operational Management Secretariat (Sago), the Public Safety River Group (GFlu), Military Police, Civil Police, and the 4th Military Fire Group. This collaborative approach underscores the commitment to combating illegal fishing activities and ensuring adherence to environmental regulations in the state of Pará.
