Datafolha: Haddad ties with Flávio in the second round and is seen as an alternative in the PT

Finance Minister Fernando Haddad is in a technical tie with Senator Flávio Bolsonaro in the Brazilian presidential election's second round according to Datafolha research.

According to a recent Datafolha survey conducted between October 3 and 5, Finance Minister Fernando Haddad (PT) is technically tied with Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) in a hypothetical second-round scenario of the presidential elections. Flávio Bolsonaro is projected to receive 43% of the votes against Haddad's 41%, with a margin of error of two percentage points, making the race highly competitive. This close contest indicates a potential for either candidate to claim victory in a second round.

The polling data reveals that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is leading with 46% of the votes, which puts additional pressure on Haddad in this political landscape. Lula's high name recognition among voters, with nearly 100% awareness, contrasts with Haddad's 86%, explaining the challenges the finance minister faces. The survey, released on Saturday, October 7, illustrates the dynamic nature of the Brazilian electoral landscape as Haddad seeks to position himself as a viable alternative within the Workers' Party (PT).

In the first round of voting, the poll suggests Haddad would achieve only 21% of the votes, significantly trailing Flávio Bolsonaro's 33%. Other candidates such as Ratinho Jr., Romeu Zema, and Renan Santos receive much lower percentages, which reflects the polarization in the Brazilian political environment. As the election approaches, Haddad's strategy will likely hinge on gaining ground against Bolsonaro while rallying support within the PT for a stronger showing in the second round of elections.
