Embassy arranges bus transport for Finns out of Qatar - Pia: "There are a lot of people stuck here"

Finnish citizens stranded in Qatar were transported via bus to Saudi Arabia as arranged by the Finnish embassy in Doha.

On Friday, the Finnish Embassy in Doha organized bus transportation for over 40 Finnish nationals stranded in Qatar to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from where they could continue their journey home on self-arranged flights. This initiative marked the first joint bus transport arranged by the Finnish and Swedish embassies for their citizens, in collaboration with the Finnish-owned travel agency Stopover Qatar. Pia Sundstedt, who works at the travel agency and is a former competitive cyclist, mentioned that a total of 51 individuals were transported by bus and that additional transport would be arranged, with the next expected trip scheduled for Sunday.

Sundstedt emphasized the significant number of individuals currently unable to leave Qatar, stating that the only viable route out involves crossing into Saudi Arabia by land, as Qatar's airspace is currently closed. This situation underscores the challenges faced by foreign citizens who are unable to depart from Qatar due to geopolitical conditions that have affected air travel. The bus transport initiative not only provides a temporary solution for those trapped but also highlights the efforts and coordination between the Finnish and Swedish embassies to assist their citizens in distress.

The circumstances in Qatar have prompted concern regarding the well-being of many nationals. The successful transport of Finns to safety in Saudi Arabia could pave the way for further collaborative measures by embassies and travel agencies in helping those still stranded. Continued communication and planning will be essential in ensuring that all citizens awaiting rescue are safely evacuated.
