Stranded Danes can take buses out of Qatar

The Danish Foreign Ministry is arranging buses to transport stranded Danes from Qatar to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where commercial flights are still available.

The Danish Foreign Ministry has announced plans to send buses to transport stranded Danish citizens out of Qatar starting Sunday. The buses will facilitate travel from Doha to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where travelers will still have opportunities to catch commercial flights. The service is scheduled to commence on Sunday and Monday mornings at 8:00 AM, with a price estimated at just over 1,000 kroner.

When questioned about the safety of traveling by bus to Saudi Arabia, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen acknowledged that there are inherent risks involved in all travel. He further emphasized that the arrangement to use local transit was made in collaboration with local authorities and advised individuals to weigh their options carefully—either to accept the bus offer or wait for airspace to reopen. This service comes amid widespread flight suspension in and out of the Middle East, particularly affecting Qatar, due to rising tensions between the USA and Israel, and Iran.

Traveling by bus is expected to take around 10 hours, which will likely be a challenging journey for those opting for this form of transportation. This decision reflects the urgency of the situation faced by many Danish nationals stranded in a volatile region, and the government's proactive approach to assist its citizens in returning home amidst ongoing international conflicts that have impacted air travel significantly.
