The Public Ministry of Accounts in Sergipe (MPC-SE) has raised concerns about the significant increase in municipal spending on festivals, with 2026 expenditures already exceeding those of the entirety of 2025.
The Public Ministry of Accounts of Sergipe (MPC-SE) has issued a concerning communication to the State Court of Accounts regarding the sharp increase in expenses for festivities across municipalities in Sergipe. This warning comes from Procurador-Geral Eduardo Côrtes, who has reported that the spending recorded for 2026 has already surpassed the total expenses of the previous year. The current data shows that expenditure on festivals amounts to R$ 415 million across 70 municipalities for 2026, compared to R$ 235 million for the entirety of 2025, which was already considered high at the time.
