Over a thousand cases of violence against women are recorded in Amazonas in 2025, report shows
A report reveals that Amazonas recorded 1,023 cases of violence against women in 2025, marking a significant increase from the previous year.
In 2025, the state of Amazonas in Brazil reported 1,023 cases of violence against women, reflecting a staggering 69.4% increase compared to 604 cases in 2024. These figures come from the "Elas Vivem" report released by the Safety Observatories Network, which monitors incidents of gender violence across nine Brazilian states. The report compiles data from various sources, including media reports and social media, to highlight the scope of gender-based violence in these regions.
The report indicates that despite Amazonas having a population about ten times smaller than SΓ£o Paulo, it stands out as one of only two states monitored that recorded over a thousand cases in 2025. Among the different types of violence reported, sexual violence and rape were the most prevalent, with 353 cases documented. The alarming rise in such cases underscores a critical issue of gender violence that requires urgent attention and intervention.
Additionally, the report highlights that 78.4% of the victims were identified as having endured severe forms of abuse, indicating a troubling trend in the severity of violence faced by women in Amazonas. As the study brings to light the disturbing increase in gender-based violence, it calls for comprehensive measures from policymakers and society to address and combat this pervasive issue effectively.
