Ambipar, responsible for waste management in Fernando de Noronha, faced scrutiny after being fined R$ 700,000 by the State Environmental Agency (CPRH) due to improper waste storage identified at the Solid Waste Sorting Unit (UTRS). Despite the seriousness of the situation, Ambipar representatives did not disclose the current volume of trash at the facility during their presentation. The company's communication and marketing director, Rachel Portilho, along with their commercial director, Mariana LeΓ£o, discussed the measures being taken to address the problem and ensure better waste management moving forward.
The meeting emphasized the importance of resolving the garbage accumulation issue, not just for the environment but also for maintaining Fernando de Noronha's reputation as a premier tourist destination. As this situation unfolds, continuous monitoring and community engagement are essential to help restore the island's ecological integrity and appeal to visitors, sustaining the local economy that heavily relies on tourism.
