Casa Sueli Carneiro launches call for projects by black leaders against climate crisis
Casa Sueli Carneiro is launching a call for projects aimed at addressing the climate crisis through initiatives led by black individuals across Brazil.
Casa Sueli Carneiro has announced the second edition of the Laboratório de Memória Negra e Soluções Ambientais, a program designed to support 21 environmental projects spearheaded by black leaders throughout Brazil. Each selected proposal will receive a financial contribution of R$ 9,000. This initiative comes as a recognition that responses to the climate crisis are already being developed in black territories, and it aims to enhance the structure, visibility, and investment for these initiatives.
In collaboration with the Banco do Brasil Foundation, the program will offer financial support, training workshops, technical monitoring, and public visibility strategies over a period of 12 months. Selected projects will also have the opportunity to engage with experts in the field and exchange experiences with other local initiatives. This multifaceted approach is intended to promote synergistic growth among participating projects and facilitate broader discussions on climate action within black communities.
Natália Carneiro, the executive director of the organization, emphasized the project’s commitment to acknowledging and strengthening existing practices within these communities. By focusing on black leadership in environmental solutions, the initiative not only aims to combat the climate crisis but also uplifts the contributions of marginalized voices in Brazil’s environmental discourse.
