Open registrations: notice offers support of up to R$ 500,000 for projects connecting climate and economy

Registrations opened for a funding notice in Brazil that offers up to R$ 500,000 for research projects linking climate change and the economy.

Starting on Monday, December 9, registrations will open for a funding notice designed to finance research projects that explore the intersection of climate change and economic issues in Brazil. This initiative, organized by the Institute of Climate and Society (iCS), allocates a total of R$ 2.5 million, with individual projects able to receive support of up to R$ 500,000. The deadline for proposal submissions is April 8, 2026, at 4 PM Brasilia time, and submissions must be made through the institute's website.

Eligible participants include Brazilian research institutions, public universities, nonprofit private universities, and civil society organizations that can demonstrate experience in scientific or technological research. The funding aims to support studies with practical applications that can produce diagnostics, tools, models, and recommendations to guide the decision-making processes of governments, businesses, and investors, highlighting the importance of integrating scientific research with economic decisions.

According to Sarah Irffi, the technical coordinator of the iCS's Hub for Climate and Economy, the proposal seeks to bridge academic research with economic decisions that influence the development of initiatives addressing climate change. This effort underscores the growing recognition of the vital role that research plays in informing and shaping policies and strategies that can effectively tackle the challenges posed by climate change in Brazil.
