Meat and milk raise the price of the basic basket in March in Rio Branco, according to Fecomércio
The cost of the basic basket in Rio Branco increased by 10.79% in March, primarily due to rising meat and milk prices.
In March, the cost of the basic basket in Rio Branco, Brazil, saw a marked increase of 10.79% for low-income families, reaching R$ 646.80. This information comes from a recent survey released by the Federation of Trade of Goods, Services, and Tourism of the State of Acre (Fecomércio-AC). The report indicated a significant disparity between the highest and lowest possible costs of the basic basket, with a difference of R$ 53.80, highlighting the financial strain on households in the area.
The rising cost of beef was identified as a primary factor contributing to this increase, with prices soaring by 41.48% during the survey period. The beef component alone represented R$ 255.95 of the total cost, accounting for nearly 39.5% of the overall basket. Added to this were notable price increases in other essential items, such as milk, which experienced a price increase of 14.06%, further exacerbating the financial challenges faced by families in Rio Branco.
This situation underscores the pressing economic issues affecting low-income households in Brazil, particularly in regions like Acre, where the cost of living continues to rise, leading to increased hardship among vulnerable populations. As key staples become more expensive, families must navigate additional burdens that threaten their economic stability and food security, raising concerns about overall wellbeing and quality of life in the community.
