In January, an analysis by the National Supply Company (Conab) revealed that tomatoes and French bread were the major contributors to the rise in the cost of the basic food basket across multiple Brazilian capitals. The price of tomatoes specifically dropped in some places, such as São Luís, by 16.96%, yet regions like Cuiabá experienced an alarming increase of 63.54%, attributed to lower quality produce being available. Additionally, prices for French bread rose in 22 capitals, with Manaus recording a significant increase of 3.06%. This spike is linked to rising energy costs and the price of imported wheat flour, necessary for bread production.
