State Matura Exams This Year Will Be Taken by 2,500 More Students Than Last Year
This year, Lithuania sees an increase in the number of senior students taking state matura exams, with key subjects such as mathematics and Lithuanian language gaining popularity.
In Lithuania, the National Agency for Education has announced that this year, 27,883 eleventh graders will participate in the first part of the mathematics state matura exam, reflecting an increase of 2,500 students compared to last year. Of these, 16,144 students have opted for the extended course exam while 11,739 will take the general mathematics exam. This trend indicates a growing interest in higher level mathematics among students at this educational stage.
Furthermore, the mandatory Lithuanian language and literature exam will be taken by 29,803 eleventh graders, with a breakdown showing 19,432 students choosing the extended course and 10,371 the general course. The popularity of the English language exam remains strong, with 23,760 students opting for it, which is an increase of nearly 1,300 from last year. These figures highlight a notable shift towards proficiency in critical subjects that may enhance students' academic and career prospects.
While subjects like biology, history, and geography are also seeing a rise in student choice, trends in physics, chemistry, economics, entrepreneurship, and informatics remain fairly stable over the years. For this academic year, physics will be taken by 4,741 students, chemistry by 3,292, economics and entrepreneurship by 3,007, and informatics by 4,534. The data reflects not only the priorities in education but also the evolving interests of students in Lithuania's academic landscape, indicating a potential area for future educational developments and resource allocation.
