Road sections have iced over in Kurzeme and Vidzeme

Friday morning's driving conditions on major roads are hindered in some areas due to ice, as reported by the State Joint Stock Company 'Latvian State Roads' (LVC).

On Friday morning, driving conditions on major roads in Latvia are complicated by ice, particularly in the Kurzeme and Vidzeme regions. The State Joint Stock Company 'Latvian State Roads' (LVC) has reported several icy road sections, while driving conditions in Zemgale and Latgale remain mostly satisfactory. According to LVC data, various routes are affected including the Tallinn highway and the Vidzeme highway, among others, which have experienced icing from specific points to borders or junctions.

The report details that major highways such as the Liepaja highway and others leading towards Kuldiga in western Latvia are also experiencing hazardous conditions due to ice. To combat these conditions, 56 winter maintenance vehicles have been deployed to spread anti-skid materials along affected roads. LVC emphasizes the immediate need for caution among drivers and planners who should account for potentially hazardous conditions in the coming days and weeks, especially on gravel roads.
