Driving conditions severely hampered on many roads Thursday
Snow and ice are making driving difficult on many of Latvia's main and regional roads, according to Latvijas valsts ceļi (LVC).
On Thursday morning, snowfall and icy conditions are affecting driving across many key and regional roads in Latvia, as reported by the State Joint-Stock Company 'Latvijas valsts ceļi' (LVC). The organization has mobilized 111 units of winter service machinery to improve the driving conditions, involving cleaning and treating road segments with anti-slip materials. The weather has created hazardous driving conditions on several important routes, particularly notable along the Vidzeme Highway (A2) from Riga to Vireši and Valmiera Highway (A3) from Murjāņi to Stalbe.
Beyond the aforementioned highways, motorists should be cautious on the Rīga bypass (Salaspils-Babīte) (A5), Daugavpils Highway (A6), Bauska Highway (A7), and Jelgava Highway (A8). Difficult driving conditions are also present on the Liepāja Highway (A9) from Rīga to the Apšupes junction, Ventspils Highway (A10) from Rīga to Kūdra, as well as on Rēzekne Highway (A12). Additionally, conditions on the Russia border road (Grebņeva) - Rēzekne - Daugavpils - Lithuania border (Medumi) (A13), the Daugavpils bypass (A14), and Rēzekne bypass (A15) remain challenging. Furthermore, the state regional road Tīnūži-Koknese (P80) is also facing similar difficulties in navigation due to the weather.
The implications of these adverse weather conditions highlight the necessity for motorists to exercise caution and prepare for potentially dangerous travel scenarios when traversing affected roads. With winter conditions persisting, the involvement of the winter service equipment underscores the efforts made to ensure road safety and functionality across the nation.
