Driving conditions are difficult in some parts of the country

Ice on the roads is making driving difficult in central Latvia, according to the Latvian State Roads.

In certain areas of central Latvia, icy conditions are severely impacting driving, as reported by the public company 'Latvijas valsts ceļi' (Latvian State Roads). The agency has deployed 19 units of winter service machinery to spread anti-skid materials on slick road sections. Major roads affected include segments of the Tallinn Highway (A1) from Berģi to Zvejniekciema station, the Vidzemes Highway (A2) from Riga to Sigulda, the Valmiera Highway (A3) from Murjāņi to Ragana, sections of the Riga bypass (A4), and the Daugavpils Highway (A6) from Riga to Piekalni, along with the Tīnūži-Koknese road (P80) from Tīnūži to Skrīveru junction.

Drivers are advised to consider the weather conditions when planning their trips, allocate extra time for their journeys, choose speeds appropriate for road conditions, and maintain a safe distance. Also, difficult driving conditions have been reported on regional roads in Ventspils, Talsi, Liepāja, Saldus, Ogre, and Gulbene. The situation highlights the importance of being cautious during winter weather, which can contribute to accidents and traffic delays, making it crucial for road users to adapt their driving to the prevailing conditions.
