Steel Cutting Ceremony for Newbuilding of Navios

A ceremony for the steel cutting of the eighth vessel in a series of 115,000 dwt tankers for Navios was held at the Zhoushan Changhong International shipyard in China.

The Zhoushan Changhong International shipyard in China recently hosted a steel cutting ceremony for the eighth vessel in a series of newly constructed tankers with a capacity of 115,000 deadweight tons (dwt) being built for Navios, owned by Angeliki Frangou. This new generation of LR2/Aframax tankers is designed according to the latest regulatory and environmental standards, featuring a length of approximately 249.9 meters, a beam of 44 meters, and a draft of 21.5 meters.

The tankers will operate under Lloyd's Register classification and are capable of using conventional fuels. Importantly, they are also designed with the capability to be converted in the future to utilize methanol or LNG as propulsion means. This flexibility reflects a trend in the shipping industry toward greener fuel alternatives, addressing both regulatory pressures and environmental concerns.

Additionally, the vessels are equipped with provisions for shore power connectivity and state-of-the-art Framo pumps, which enhance their loading and unloading processes. These advancements not only improve operational efficiency but also significantly boost the ships' commercial value in a competitive market, positioning Navios favorably in the evolving maritime landscape.
