A drug screening campaign in Bengaluru led to 31 students testing positive for drugs under Karnataka Police's new initiative aimed at combating youth drug addiction.
A large-scale drug screening operation was conducted in Bengaluru's Vijayanagar area as part of Karnataka Police's new initiative named 'Sanmitra' aimed at preventing drug addiction among the youth. The operation targeted 6 educational institutions and 2 hostels, revealing that 31 students tested positive for drugs. This alarming result highlights the increasing prevalence of substance abuse among young people in the region.
The Karnataka Police provided details about the initiative, which focuses on addressing the serious issue of drug addiction that significantly impacts the youth across the state. Instead of punitive measures, the 'Sanmitra' campaign adopts a transformative and compassionate approach to foster a drug-free society. The police aim to guide the youth towards appropriate paths through counseling and medical support, reflecting a shift in how drug-related issues are handled.
The screening operation was announced to the public, and it took place under the leadership of DCP Yatish N in the jurisdiction of the Vijayanagar sub-division on March 4. The operation was conducted in coordination with the management of the identified educational institutions and hostels, ensuring cooperation and a no-objection certificate for the screenings.
