Three 17-Year-Olds Injured in Dotonbori, 21-Year-Old Man Re-arrested for Attempted Murder of Two Teens

A 21-year-old man has been re-arrested for attempted murder in connection with an incident in Dotonbori where three 17-year-old boys were attacked, resulting in one death and two injuries.

In a shocking incident that occurred in February in Dotonbori, Osaka, three 17-year-old boys were attacked, with one dying and two others injured. The police have re-arrested 21-year-old Ryoga Iwasaki for attempted murder after authorities had initially charged him with murder. The arrest followed an investigation into Iwasaki's actions during the attack, where he allegedly stabbed the victims in connection to an earlier confrontation.

The incident unfolded on February 14th around midnight, when Iwasaki is accused of using a knife to stab two teen boys, one from Yao City and the other from Kashiwara City. While the Yao teen remained in critical condition for a period, he regained consciousness after hospitalization and was discharged on March 2. The other victim also sustained serious injuries but was released from the hospital a day before. Meanwhile, the attack resulted in the death of Takuyuki Kamata, a company employee from Taharamoto, Nara Prefecture, who suffered fatal stab wounds.

Initially, Iwasaki claimed he did not intend to kill and that the attack was an act of self-defense after being confronted by Kamata and others when he allegedly harassed a woman nearby before the incident. After the attack, police managed to locate Iwasaki within 11 hours, and he had been taking no further questions from authorities. This incident has drawn significant attention as it raises concerns surrounding youth violence and safety in public spaces in Japan, prompting a wider discussion about the need for preventive measures against such tragedies in urban settings.
