A 21-year-old man was arrested for fatally stabbing a teenager in Dotonbori after reportedly being confronted by the victim and friends for harassing a woman.
In a tragic incident in Dotonbori, a popular entertainment district in Osaka, three 17-year-old boys were stabbed, resulting in one fatality and another in critical condition. The man arrested for the murder, Ryo Iwasaki, 21, allegedly committed the act after being warned about his harassing behavior towards a female by the victims. Eyewitness accounts suggest that tensions escalated quickly, leading to a violent confrontation.
Authorities reported that Iwasaki had initially claimed that he did not intend to kill anyone, stating that he only meant to threaten the teens with a knife. However, as he approached one of the boys, he ended up stabbing him in the chest multiple times. The deceased victim, Ryunosuke Kamada, a company employee from Nara Prefecture, was severely injured in the attack, leading to his untimely death.
The incident has sparked discussions about public safety in areas frequented by tourists, as Dotonbori is a major attraction known for its vibrant nightlife and iconic landmarks. It also raises concerns about the behaviors of individuals, particularly young men, towards women in crowded spaces. Investigations are ongoing as police continue to gather witness statements to establish a clearer narrative of the event's circumstances.
