Detours in Guayaquil due to the closure of the Cerro del Carmen tunnel between the night of Thursday 5 and the dawn of Friday 6
The closure of the Cerro del Carmen tunnel in Guayaquil will cause temporary detours for drivers as repairs are conducted.
The Transit and Mobility Agency (ATM) of Ecuador has announced that the Cerro del Carmen tunnel will be temporarily closed for five hours to facilitate the repair of a rainwater channel. This closure will take place from 11 PM on Thursday, March 5 to 4 AM on Friday, March 6. Consequently, drivers are advised to use alternate routes such as Avenida Pedro Menéndez Gilbert and Calle Machala to reach destinations in the central and southern parts of the city.
In addition to directing traffic due to the tunnel closure, the ATM has informed residents about another ongoing closure on Vicente Maldonado Street, which is undergoing reconstruction works that involve roads, sidewalks, and hydrosanitary systems. As a result, bus routes including lines 6, 42, 52, 66, and 108, along with the Metrovía Mapasingue feeder (T3), will also be diverted onto alternative streets during this period.
Residents are encouraged to plan their travel routes ahead of time and exercise caution while driving in these areas. The city’s transport authorities are putting these measures in place to ensure safety and efficiency during necessary infrastructure repairs, which are crucial for the maintenance of the city’s transportation network.
