AMT implements changes in the Guayasamín tunnel from March 9
The Metropolitan Transit Agency (AMT) in Ecuador will implement new operating hours for the central lane of the Guayasamín tunnel starting March 9 to improve mobility in the valley areas.
The Metropolitan Transit Agency (AMT) has announced major changes to the operational hours of the central lane in the Guayasamín tunnel, scheduling these changes to take effect on March 9. These alterations include defined hours for traffic in both directions to enhance overall mobility in the surrounding valley regions. The new schedule ensures that the central lane is designated for specific travel directions and that an increased closure period is also announced to manage congestion effectively.
Starting March 9, the central lane will operate daily with set times for vehicles traveling from the valley to Quito and vice versa. The lane will be open from 6:30 AM to 12:00 PM for valley-to-Quito traffic and from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM for Quito-to-valley traffic. Furthermore, the central lane will remain closed from 8:00 PM to 6:30 AM, indicating a focus on optimizing flow during peak hours when the most congestion tends to occur.
This initiative, aimed at improving mobility, includes a contraflow system in place on weekdays, enabling efficient traffic management with designated morning and evening rush hours. AMT has committed to implementing controls to ensure compliance with these changes and improve commuting times for residents and travelers alike, highlighting the ongoing efforts to enhance transportation infrastructure in Ecuador’s urban areas.
