Fair highlights the work of women in family agriculture in São Luís
The 3rd Women's Fair of Family Agriculture is taking place in São Luís, Brazil, celebrating women’s contributions to agriculture and promoting their businesses.
The 3rd Women's Fair of Family Agriculture is being held from March 5th to 7th at São Luís Shopping in the Jaracaty neighborhood. This event, organized by the Government of Maranhão through the Secretary of State for Family Agriculture, marks International Women's Day and aims to recognize and enhance the work of female family farmers. The fair not only focuses on the empowerment of women in agriculture but also seeks to foster business opportunities and increase visibility for women's production in the sector.
Attendees of the fair can explore a variety of products from family agriculture and solidary economy, including food and handicrafts created by women representing 25 different enterprises from the rural sector and creative economy. This showcase allows these women to connect with a broader market, gaining recognition for their contributions and generating income through sales. The initiative underscores the collaborative efforts to reinforce the role of women in rural areas and promote economic opportunities.
Bira do Pindaré, the Secretary of State for Family Agriculture, emphasized that this initiative is timely as it coincides with a month commemorating women's struggles. Celebrating women's work in agriculture not only helps highlight their important contributions but also encourages future generations to partake in these initiatives, aiming for sustainable development in rural communities and greater gender equity in the agricultural sector.
