Man drowns in Bambuí Canal, in Maricá
A 57-year-old man named José Gonçalves de Jesus drowned in Bambuí Canal in Maricá, Brazil, after reportedly consuming alcohol before swimming.
On Thursday afternoon, a tragic incident occurred at Bambuí Canal in Maricá, located in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro, where 57-year-old José Gonçalves de Jesus drowned. Witnesses, including local fishermen, reported that José had arrived at the canal with a friend, and both had been drinking alcohol prior to the accident. At one point, José decided to take a dip in the water.
After approximately 15 minutes of his swimming, José's friend realized he was missing and initiated a search. He was ultimately found face down and entangled in a branch near the canal's shore. Another fisherman helped to retrieve José from the water; however, it was discovered that he had already drowned. Emergency services, including the fire department and paramedics, were called to the scene to manage the situation and await the body’s removal.
