MTST Pre-candidates in SP Hold Caravan Denouncing Increase in Feminicides
Pre-candidates linked to the MTST in São Paulo are organizing a caravan to raise awareness about the alarming rise in feminicides in the state.
Pre-candidates associated with the MTST (Movement of Workers Without Housing) in São Paulo, including state deputy Ediane Maria and movement leader Natalia Boulos, are embarking on a caravan through cities in the interior of São Paulo and the metropolitan area. This initiative aims to highlight the significant increase in feminicides within the state, which have reportedly surged by 96% between 2021 and 2025, based on data from the Brazilian Public Security Forum.
Ediane Maria, who is seeking re-election, emphasized that the caravan titled 'Women in Movement' is a call to action addressing this urgent issue. She aims to mobilize community members and raise awareness about the drastic rise in violence against women. Natalia Boulos, who is also running for a federal deputy position, criticized the current government under Tarcísio for its lack of investment in combating violence against women, arguing that the surge in feminicides is a result of political choices rather than mere coincidence.
The caravan not only serves as a platform for these candidates to communicate their political agendas but also as a crucial opportunity to advocate for urgent policy reforms aimed at protecting women. Given the substantial increase in reported feminicides, this initiative reflects broader societal concerns about gender-based violence and the social responsibility of elected officials to prioritize women's safety in their political agendas.
