MST mobilizes 15,000 people in actions led by women

The Landless Workers' Movement (MST) mobilized 15,000 participants across 24 Brazilian states for the Women Without Land's recent struggle week in March.

The Landless Workers' Movement (MST) announced that it mobilized approximately 15,000 people across 24 different states in Brazil during the recent Journey of Struggles for Women Without Land, which took place from March 8 to March 12. This year’s events were focused on advocating for land reform and raising awareness about violence faced by women, amplifying the voices of those affected by social injustices in rural areas.

During the mobilization period, activities included marches, roadblocks, protests, and land occupations, affecting a total of 14 rural properties in states such as Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Pernambuco, Piauí, and Tocantins. The actions not only drew attention to the need for agrarian reform but also highlighted the ongoing struggles and violence that women in rural settings endure, underscoring the intersectionality of gender and land rights.

This initiative is significant as it underlines the role of women in social movements and their critical contributions to the fight for equitable land distribution and social justice. By organizing these actions, the MST aims to bring national attention to the systemic issues that affect rural communities, particularly focusing on the empowerment of women as leaders within these movements, thus fostering a stronger collective voice for change in Brazilian society.
