Amazonas EcoLar: registrations for free houses are extended
Registrations for the Amazonas EcoLar project in Manaus have been extended until March 15, with the first 16 houses to be built and delivered for free.
The Amazonas EcoLar project in Manaus has extended the registration deadline for applicants until March 15, aiming to assist those in need with free housing. The initiative is part of a broader effort by the government to provide affordable and sustainable homes for residents, specifically in the Petrópolis neighborhood in the southern zone of Manaus. The first phase will see 16 houses constructed using innovative building materials made from recycled plastics, particularly PET bottles.
The houses, each measuring 50 square meters, will consist of two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom. Notably, the construction technique involves interlocking blocks that do not require traditional adhesives like cement or glue, allowing for quick assembly—each unit can be completed in approximately five days. Additionally, the homes will be equipped with biodigesters, aimed at efficiently treating waste and promoting sustainability within the local community. Authorities hope to not only provide housing but also empower residents through environmentally friendly practices.
This initiative, overseen by the Amazonas State Civil Defense and the Special Projects Management Unit, reflects the local government's commitment to urban development and disaster resilience. By utilizing recycled materials and modern construction methods, the Amazonas EcoLar project sets a precedent for future housing projects that prioritize environmental sustainability and rapid deployment, potentially inspiring similar endeavors in other regions of Brazil and beyond.
