Government opens pre-registration for homes in the 'Amazon EcoLar' project in Manaus; see how to participate

The Amazon government has launched a pre-registration for families living in high-risk areas to join the Amazonas EcoLar housing project, with the first homes to be built in the Petrópolis neighborhood of Manaus.

The Amazonas state government has initiated a pre-registration system for families residing in high-risk areas to participate in its new housing initiative, the Amazonas EcoLar project. The first phase of this project includes the construction of 16 houses in the Petrópolis neighborhood, located in the southern zone of Manaus. These homes are being provided free of charge and are designed to meet the needs of families in vulnerable situations. The government aims to ensure safer and more sustainable living conditions for communities in need.

The proposed houses will be built on a 3,200 square meter lot on Delfim de Souza Street and will each cover 50 square meters, featuring two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, and bathroom. Notably, the building materials will consist of blocks made from recycled plastic, such as PET bottles, which promotes environmental sustainability. The construction method is designed for efficiency, requiring no cement, mortar, or glue while allowing for quick assembly in approximately five days. Each dwelling will also be equipped with a biodigester to treat wastewater, enhancing the eco-friendly aspect of the project.

In addition to housing, the Amazonas EcoLar project encompasses significant infrastructure development in the area, including land leveling and road construction. This initiative not only addresses housing shortages but also focuses on improving local infrastructure to support the growing population. By integrating environmental practices and addressing social needs, this project represents an innovative approach to urban development in Manaus, potentially setting a precedent for similar initiatives in other regions of Brazil.
