Rescuers evacuate two people from a flooded house in Ropaži
Two individuals were evacuated from a flooded house in Ropaži, Latvia, by the State Fire and Rescue Service.
Today, two people were evacuated from a flooded household in the Ropaži Municipality, as reported by the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD). The authorities received a call from the municipal police this morning around 10 AM, requesting assistance in evacuating individuals from a home in the Garkalne area, which had experienced severe flooding. Rescuers, equipped with specialized equipment, reached the location and successfully transported both individuals to safety.
The flooding was attributed to the property being situated in a low-lying area, where water accumulated due to melting snow, compounded by an iced-over drain that hindered the water's drainage from the site. Municipal officials informed the agency LETA that responsible personnel had been monitoring the situation concerning the affected home since the previous Saturday. Furthermore, social services were in communication with the residents and assisting them; for instance, food was delivered to the affected individuals on Sunday, although they had not initially agreed to evacuate.
The evacuated residents are now receiving the necessary assistance to ensure their well-being. This incident underscores the challenges posed by sudden flooding in low-lying areas, particularly during spring when snow begins to melt and drainage systems can be impaired. Local agencies remain vigilant in monitoring similar situations to prevent any casualties and provide timely support where needed.
