Longer response time for 112 calls

The response time for emergency calls to 112 in Sweden has increased despite a rise in call volume, according to SOS Alarm's annual report.

SOS Alarm's annual report for 2025 reveals a noticeable increase in both the call volume and response times for emergency 112 calls in Sweden. The organization managed over 3.8 million calls, which is an increase of more than 70,000 calls compared to the previous year, though it remains below the record-breaking number of calls received in 2023, which was around 4.1 million.

The report highlights that the average response time for emergency calls has risen to 7.3 seconds, up from 6.6 seconds in 2024. Although this response time has worsened, it still meets the government's target of eight seconds. Furthermore, SOS Alarm's crisis preparedness department has seen a significant increase in workload, handling nearly 45,500 cases in the year, marking a 20 percent rise compared to previous years.

An additional trend noted in the report is the growing use of interpretation services during emergency calls, with interpreters being utilized for conversations conducted in 78 different languages besides Swedish. This change indicates a move towards better inclusivity and support for Sweden's diverse population in urgent situations. Overall, while the increase in calls reflects a growing reliance on emergency services, the rising response times could raise concerns about the efficiency and effectiveness of the emergency response system in Sweden.
