Lithuanians Stuck in Dubai – Lost in the Labyrinth of Government Communication: "Maybe Check What You’re Talking About First?"
Lithuanian nationals stranded in Dubai express frustration over the lack of effective communication from their government regarding their return home.
Aurelijus Beleckis, one of the Lithuanian nationals stuck in Dubai, shared a heartfelt message highlighting the emotional state of his fellow countrymen as they struggle not only to return to Lithuania but also to receive crucial information from the Lithuanian authorities. Although a glimmer of hope has emerged with news of efforts to evacuate the most vulnerable individuals, including sick people and pregnant women, the dissatisfaction with governmental communication remains evident.
Beleckis criticized the government's response, especially the statements made by the Prime Minister, who claimed that the Foreign Ministry was actively organizing assistance. Upon calling the ministry's hotline, Beleckis found himself directed to the embassy in the country he was in, receiving little help. His experience illustrates a broader issue of ineffective communication and coordination during a crisis, which leaves citizens feeling abandoned.
This situation sheds light on the challenges faced by Lithuanians abroad, emphasizing the importance of clear and actionable responses from government institutions in times of need. The frustration expressed by those in Dubai raises questions about how well prepared the government is to handle crises involving its citizens outside the country and calls for urgent improvements in communication strategies to ensure better support for those in distress.
