Seoul City University Selected for Education Ministry's 'Advanced Industry Talent Cultivation Boot Camp' in AI Sector

Seoul City University has been selected for the Education Ministry's AI Talent Cultivation Boot Camp, which will receive significant funding over the next five years.

Seoul City University (President Won Yong-gul) has been chosen as one of the few universities for the '2026 Advanced Industry Talent Cultivation Boot Camp' project, which specializes in artificial intelligence (AI) and is overseen by the Education Ministry and the Korea Industrial Technology Promotion Agency (KIAT). This initiative aims to collaboratively conduct short-term intensive training courses in partnership with industries, targeting the development of professionals with practical skills in advanced industries. With this selection, Seoul City University is set to receive a funding of approximately 7.125 billion KRW over the next five years.

The achievement is significant given the intense competition where only three universities in Seoul were selected. It marks the acknowledgment of Seoul City University's strong AI education infrastructure and industry-academia collaboration capabilities. The university plans to launch the 'Next-Generation Operational AI Boot Camp,' emphasizing a demand-driven training system tailored to meet industrial needs. A large-scale educational consortium will be formed, incorporating 13 departments across six colleges, including management, economics, natural sciences, engineering, and urban science, to enhance educational synergy.

A crucial aspect of this initiative is to foster interdisciplinary talent that can integrate AI technology across various fields such as statistics, economics, management, urban administration, and environmental engineering. To achieve this, the university will operate practice-oriented education that breaks down barriers between majors and addresses real-life industrial problems. It aims to establish a sustainable model of AI talent cultivation that connects education with proofs of concept and employment opportunities, providing accessible micro-degrees and intensive short-term programs. Collaborations with partner companies will strengthen project-based learning reflective of industry needs and support various employment linkage programs to help graduates find jobs effectively. Additionally, the program will include a system to systematically manage the competencies and outcomes of participants.
