FCT council heads get INEC certificates

The Independent National Electoral Commission presented return certificates to the re-elected chairman and deputy of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, along with other council leaders following the February 21 elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally concluded the February 21, 2026, area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory by presenting certificates of return to the re-elected Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Maikalangu, and his deputy, Mohammed Nadabo. Alongside them, five area council chairmen and 62 elected councillors received their certificates during a ceremony held at INEC's FCT office in Abuja.

During the presentation, FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner Aminu Idris emphasized that this event marks the final stage of a credible and transparent electoral process. He congratulated the elected officials, highlighting that their victories reflect the confidence the electorate has placed in them. Idris urged the newly elected officials to regard their mandates as a serious commitment to serving the community.
