FCT poll: INEC uploads chairmanship results on IReV

The Independent National Electoral Commission has started posting results for the Federal Capital Territory Area Council chairmanship elections on its Result Viewing portal.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has initiated the process of uploading results from the recently conducted Federal Capital Territory Area Council chairmanship elections onto its online Result Viewing portal. This significant step comes after a highly contested electoral process held on Saturday, during which 68 elective positions were available, including six chairmanship and 62 councillorship seats. The uploading of results is crucial for transparency in the electoral process, allowing citizens and stakeholders to monitor the outcome directly.

As of 7:35 PM on the day of the election, reports indicated that 847 results had been successfully posted from the 1,401 polling units located in the Abuja Municipal Area Council. Results from various other councils were also being uploaded, demonstrating an organized effort by INEC to ensure that information is shared promptly and efficiently. For instance, Kwali saw 75 results uploaded from a total of 201 polling units, Kuje had 115 out of 262, and Gwagwalada posted 204 results from 338 polling units. These figures reflect a proactive approach by the electoral body to maintain engagement with the public during the election process.

The extensive coverage of this event by PUNCH highlights the importance of such elections in Nigeria's democratic process. Given that the electoral commission aims to heighten transparency and build trust, the dissemination of results via digital platforms significantly contributes to public confidence. As the results become accessible, the focus will now shift to the implications of these elections on local governance and the conducting of future polls in Nigeria, particularly as citizens await to see how the winners will address crucial local issues post-election.
