Bauru-Arealva Airport is ready to expand commercial flights and can receive cargo transport, authorities assess
Authorities in Brazil have assessed that the Moussa Tobias Airport in Bauru is ready to expand its commercial flight routes and has the infrastructure to support air cargo transport in the future.
During a visit to the Moussa Tobias Airport in Bauru, São Paulo, federal authorities evaluated the terminal's readiness to receive new commercial flight routes and support future air cargo operations. Present at the meeting were Tomé Barros Monteiro da Franca, the Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Ports and Airports, and Tiago Chagas Faierstein, the President of the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac). They were welcomed by local political leaders and representatives from Rede VOA, the company managing the airport under a 30-year concession since 2022.
Opened nearly 20 years ago, the Moussa Tobias Airport currently operates only one daily flight to Campinas (SP) operated by Azul Linhas Aéreas, along with seasonal flights to destinations in the Northeast during holiday periods. The airport sees a modest monthly traffic of about 5,000 passengers, indicating potential for growth with the proposed expansion of commercial flights and cargo services.
The planned expansion follows Brazil's broader strategy for improving regional airports, thereby enhancing connectivity and supporting local economies. As infrastructure improvements take place, local authorities hope to attract more airlines and flights, thereby increasing both passenger and freight traffic, which could benefit the region's development and economic dynamism.
